Louisiana voters will head to the polls on Saturday, May 16, 2026, to decide several statewide ballot measures. Among them is Amendment 2, which addresses the proposed St. George Community School System in East Baton Rouge Parish.
Whether you live in the affected area or simply want to be an informed voter, we encourage you to learn what is on the ballot before casting your vote. The St. George Chamber of Commerce supports Amendment 2, and we encourage our members and our community to vote yes.
What Amendment 2 Addresses
According to the Louisiana Secretary of State's published materials, Amendment 2 asks voters whether to grant the proposed St. George Community School System the same authority granted to parishes for certain school system purposes. This includes matters related to Minimum Foundation Program funding, certain instructional materials, and certain local revenues dedicated to supporting elementary and secondary schools.
Why We Support It
Strong schools build strong communities, and strong communities are where businesses choose to invest, hire, and grow. Amendment 2 is about giving the St. George Community School System the same tools and authority that other Louisiana school systems already have, so our community can plan for the long term with confidence.
For our members, this matters in practical terms. Local alignment between schools, families, and the business community helps attract and retain talent, supports the workforce of tomorrow, and contributes to the kind of stability that drives investment decisions. A vote for Amendment 2 is a vote for accountability, local planning, and a stronger foundation for everything we are building here in St. George.
